Description
This self-guided tour is set up to see lots of Tasmania´s nature, not just from the bikeseat. Tasmania´s east coast is the 'classic' tourist route, more or less flat country with many lovely, empty white sandy beaches and a mild, dry and sunny climate to enjoy. The tour is not too difficult, well trained cyclists will have time for additional excursions.
In any case, you will visit the famous Freycinet nationalpark with its Wineglass Bay, voted by lonely planet as one of the best beaches in the world! Later you can see a Tasmanian Devil in a Wildlife park.
You can start any day, The first tour day is an arrival day in Hobart, Tasmania capital.
Next morning you have enough time for a short stroll through the city before you begin the cycle to Richmond. You will arrive early allowing time to explore this historic small town.
The next day's destination is Orford on the east coast after cycling over some hills. We recommend an additional night here to visit Maria Island (the entire island is nationalpark).
You will continue to Swansea along the coast with beautiful sea views, then cycle on to the tourist town of Bicheno. The next day can be spent in famous Freycinet National Park for a walk to Wineglass Bay.
Its a pleasant ride with stunning castal views to the east coast capital of St Helens (pop 4,500) with its neaby famous Bay of Fires. En route you may visit a wildlife park where with a bit of luck you may get to pet a Tasmanian devil.
You can end the tour in St.Helens and take the bus to Launceston or Hobart tomorrow morning at 8.30 am (weekdays only). Or you can extend and continue cycling to Launceston.
