Description
This leg follows the Mighty Murray River (the border of NSW and Victoria) from Corryong on the Upper Murray, land of the Man from Snowy River, to Goolwa where the Murray River enters Lake Alexandrina and thence the sea.
We will visit delightful small towns such as Jingellic (Pub only), Corowa-Wahgunyah, Koondrook-Barham, Moama-Echuca, Lake Boga, Renmark, Waikerie and Mannum and the ride is completed at the lovely seaside town of Goolwa, where the Murray empties into Lake Alexandrina.
This is a fabulous ride with fantastic weather conditions. We are travelling this road at the beginning of Autumn and winds, in the main, should be favourable. No bush camps on this leg but we will have group meals together as per itinerary.
This was a new route for Cycle across Oz in 2014 and very enjoyable. Collis & Kathy Ivey are your hosts and support crew. The accommodation is mostly camping at the best available camping areas in each region. At most camping grounds there is an opportunity for riders to upgrade into cabins at their own expense.
Riders arrange most meals themselves except on occasions that are stated on the itinerary There is limited space to carry your personal food supplies but plenty of opportunity to stock up as we travel along. This ride is quite a social ride with lots of eating, drinking and leisurely days in the saddle.
We restrict our riding numbers to around 20 riders due to ability to carry everyone’s luggage. We do not encourage regular use of the sag wagon and everyone is supported and encouraged to complete each days riding distance. Daily distances will depend on available accommodation, wind directions & speed, and the group’s preference. We have planned itineraries on our web site but they may be changed at our discretion.
This is the first leg of 6 legs in our Epic 2015 ride around Australia.
