Description
From Darwin, the capital of the Northern Territory, the cycle tour heads south crossing a series of big rivers to Katherine. From here the tour heads West along the big river gorges of the Kimberley taking in Victoria River and Timber Creek and Lake Argyll and Fitzroy River ending in Broome.
This trip is all about the river gorges. For the first few days we will cross the rivers as we head south to Katherine. They will all be pretty full with the rainy season just ended. Then it is down to Lake Argyll which is a man-made lake some 40 times larger than Sydney Harbour and home to 30,000 freshwater crocodiles - and safe for swimming. The ride ends at Broome, the home of the Australian pearl industry.
This ride has 2 bush camps and one nights stay at an outback cattle station. The remainder of the ride will be camping accommodation at the best available caravan parks and roadhouses along the way. This is a lovely ride at this time of year, as long as the top end has a good wet season.
South Easterly winds will provide very favorable wind assistance at this time of year.
