Description
CROSSING THE ANDES TO THE JUNGLE.
This private tour gives the opportunity to observe many settings of the Peruvian country: from the busy city life of its capital, through the imposing figure of the Andes Mountains and the history that runs along its ancient paths, to finally be submerged into the lush vegetation of the jungle highlands.
On the first day, we will leave Lima City on a five-hour bus ride that will take us to the mountains above 3500 masl. From the heights of the Andes Mountain Range, we will ride down to Canta town where our lodging will be waiting to spend our first night in the Andes. The next morning, our trail will begin at the La Viuda Lakes towards the National Sanctuary of Huayllay Stone Forest in the middle of the western mountain range. As its name implies, this ‘forest’ displays hundreds of nature-made stone statues, chiseled by time and the elements into the likeness of human profiles and various animal shapes.
The next few days, our route will take us across magnificent sights, both as we pedal across the flat surface of the plateau high up the Andes mountain range at the National Park of Lake Junin, the second biggest lake in Peru and higher than Titicaca, and along the Inca trail, preserved through the centuries and still used by local people.
Then, after crossing the eastern Andes mountain range we will downhill to the jungle, arriving to Chanchamayo valley, home of waterfalls, a wide variety of unique flora and fauna, and exotic food. There we will take the last two days riding on dirt roads in the jungle mountains before taking our trip back to Lima.
