Description
Sunday 11th September to Friday 23rd September -
This year's Led trip is of the 'covering ground' variety rather than the going up-and-down-mountains of 2015. The start point will be Bordeaux – chosen because it has good rail and flight links. From there we simply cycle all the way back to central Brittany and our base at Gouarec.
Now this is about 500 kms by the shortest route along the coast, but in 11 full days we can do a lot more than that. My hope is that we will cycle between 50/30 and 80/50 kms/miles a day – the terrain is very gentle for most of the time so this isn't going to be hard cycling, but anyone coming needs to be happy cycling for 4-6 hours in a day at gentle touring pace.
With all those extra kms in hand the route can be considerably more interesting than just trolling up the coast. I'd like us to cut inland to Cognac and ride north to cross the Loire through some of the finest wine producing areas of france. Then west into the Gerande with it's pretty coast, salt-flats and Avocets. Thence past the Chateau at Josselin and 'Home'. If time allows there's a detour to the Gulf-du-Morbihan – it just depends on how far we cycle per day. However the final route works out you will ride through a constantly changing landscape that will give you a real taste of much of France.
