The route uses bicycle friendly roads with paved shoulders or where motor vehicle traffic is light so drivers can easily leave space around you. Ontario law requires all drivers of motor vehicles to maintain a minimum distance of one meter, where practical, when passing cyclists on highways.
This is one of the popular areas for bicycling in Ontario with scenic quiet roads and charming towns. Gananoque has a lively waterfront featuring island boat cruises, theatre at the Thousand Islands Playhouse and the Festival of The Islands in August.
Enjoy the scenic Thousand Islands Parkway bikeway and Waterfront Trail between Gananoque and Brockville. Brockville's Riverfest offers many days of concerts and entertainment starting the last week of June but there are also lots of regular attractions at this historic city on the St Lawrence River including the farmers market, historic railway tunnel, Theater Brockville, the Brockville Museum and Fulford House 1900's Edwardian mansion.
Follow quiet historic routes north to Kemptville leading to the wonderful old stone buildings and Blockhouse Museum in the historic Rideau Canal towns of Merrickville, Smiths Falls and Westport.
