Relaxing trip through two similiar countries but each with its individual characteristic. You wil experience the best both countries have to offer. Discover two important capitals os Central Europe, Prague and Vienna, with their cultural and historical sights.
Travel from Prague to Vienna as part of the Czech Greenway cycling trail through the varying landscape of South Bohemia with deep forests, mysterious lakes and picturesque villages. Discover the most beautiful town in South Bohemia, Cesky Krumlov, with its cobbled streets, magnificent castle and amazing Genius Loci. For two days drive in the virgin landscape of Lipno lake, the Vltava river valley and Sumava national park, the largest forest area in Central Europe. The last two days of the trip follow the most beautiful part of the main Austrian cycling path "Donauradweg", following the banks of the Danube river, surrounded by orchards and vineyards. Along the way there are endless opportunities to taste excellent Czech beers, Austrian wines and local specialities.
This trip from Prague to Vienna is for those who are not in a a hurry.

Prague to Vienna Itinerary
Day 1: Jindřichův Hradec - Třeboň - 54 km / 34 miles
In the morning we pick you up at your hotel in Prague and take you to historic Jindřichův Hradec. The first day you ride through countryside featuring lakes and pine groves. This picturesque landscape is filled with romantic hideaways, meadows surrounded by forests, and a sandy-bottomed swimming hole. In the afternoon you ride to Třeboň, the center of Czech fishing as well as a town rich in Renaissance architecture with its own castle and spa. Overnight in Třeboň.
Day 2: Třeboň - České Budějovice - 45 km / 28 miles
Today several highlights await you! Quite and easy ride, leading firstly through pine forests and ponds to Hluboka nad Vltavou, arguably the most beautiful castle of Czech Republic. Don´t miss the castle tour! After lunch, continue on a new smooth cycle track Greenway 12 along the Vltava river to České Budejovice, the city, that gave the name to the famous Czech beer Budweisser Budvar. We reccommend you to taste the local beer specialities at Masne Kramy restaurant, the flag ship of Budvar Brewery. Overnight in České Budejovice.
Day 3 - České Budějovice - Český Krumlov - 29 km / 18 miles or 52 km / 32 miles
Today there are two options. A relaxing route leads on the main cycle track Greenway 12, folowing the Vltava river valley through the picturesque villages including Zlata Koruna, with its famous 13th. century monastery and ending in Cesky Krumlov, the pearl of Czech Republic. You can spend the afternoon wandering through the narrow streets, visiting castle museum or just relaxing on the boat trip on the Vltava river. If 30km of cycling is not enough for you, choose the second option. The route leads through rolling terrain to Holasovice (UNESCO), village famous for its "village baroque style" houses and then climbes through Blansky Forest, with the highest peak Klet (1084m), to Cesky Krumlov. Both options offer a possibillity of a morning tour of Budvar Brewery. Overnight in Cesky Krumlov.
Day 4: Lipno - Vyšší Brod - Dolní Vltavice - 42 km / 26 miles or 48 km / 30 miles
First we take you by van to village Lipno, where you will start your cycling day. The route takes you through the Vltava River valley, through the Devil´s Wall Nature Park with its impressive rock formations to Vyssi Brod, with its magnificent monastery. Have lunch here :-). Relaxing route continues along the right bank of Lipno lake to Kyselov, where the ferry takes you directly to your hotel in Dolni Vltavice. There are many oportunities for swimming in the lake along the way. If you feeel like a longer ride, from Vyssi Brod you can continue through more hilly terrain along the Czech - Austrian border through abandoned villages Kaplicky and Krasne Pole to Svaty Tomas and Vitkuv Kamen, from where is amazing view of the whole southern part of Sumava National Park and the Lipno lake. From here it is only 11 km descent to the ferry. Overnight in Dolni Vltavice.
Day 5: Dolní Vltavice - Schwarzenberg Canal - Dolní Vltavice - 44 km / 28 miles
You can tailor this day to your own preferences. The route leads through the typical Sumava Forest countryside of deep forests and pastures, along the Schwarzenberg Canal, a technical monument to lumber transport. You can decide for yourself how long you wish to cycle and what you would like to see. Either you climb the highest peak of Sumava National Park, Plechy (1348m), or after swimming in the Lipno lake you wander down to the caffe, it will be a memorable day. Overnight in Dolni Vltavice.
Day 6: Enns - Maria Taferl - Melk - 80 km / 50 miles
Today we leave virgin landscape of Sumava National Park and jump by van over the border mountains to the wide Austrian Danube valley. Beggining in the oldest city of austria, Enns and continuing on flat cycling path "Donauradweg" to Grein, picturesque town with its magnificent bourgeois town houses which was once an important emporium at the Danube and which was also called "goldenes Stadtchen". After lunch continue along the left bank of the river to Maria Taferl church, the most important place of pilgrimage in Lower Austria and arrive to Melk with its impressive baroque monastrey. Overnight in Melk.
Day 7: Melk - Weissenkirchen - Melk - 65 km / 41 miles
The last day cycling leads through Wachau region along the Danube river, hemmed by vineyards and orchards. You will have many oportunities to taste, mainly white, wine and specialities offered in local wine - taverns "Heuriges", visit the famous wine villages Wessenkirchen and Durstein (UNESCO). Return to Melk on the other side of the river. If the route seams too long for you or you are tired from wine tasting, you can shorten the trip by ferry at any time. Overnight in Melk.
Day 8: Melk - Vienna
Enjoy your last day in Melk. Transfer by train from Melk to Vienna.
