Description
Southwest Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota offer some of the best road and trail riding in the country. Rail trails, bridges, cheese factories, and wineries highlight this beautiful area.
After gathering in Eagan, just south of the Twin Cities, we’ll be shuttled to Baraboo, Wisconsin. From there it is a short ride to Devil’s Lake State Park where we will camp near the sparkling lake. Next up is a scenic ride south to Spring Green, located along the Wisconsin River. Most will want to stop at Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin, “the greatest single building in America.” We will then turn northwest and head towards Reedsburg, the gateway to the “400 Trail.” The 22-mile long 400 Trail is followed by the 32-mile Elroy Sparta Trail, the nation’s oldest rail trail. We’ll pass through three rock tunnels amidst the beautiful ridges and valleys. In Sparta we’ll visit the eclectic Deke Slayton Memorial Space & Bike Museum. After Sparta we’ll take the 22-mile La Crosse River Trail, which connects to the 25-mile Great River Trail north to Trempealeau. No less than 18 bridges along the trail’s length have been modified to accommodate bicycles! We’ll cross the mighty Mississippi at Red Wing, Minnesota, where we will almost immediately leave traffic behind on the 20-mile Cannon Valley Trail, which takes us to Cannon Falls. From Cannon Falls, it’s 30 miles along gently rolling terrain back to our start point in Eagan.
