Description
This a lovely ride through the Cote D'armor department to the North coast and the little town of Plestin Les Greves. As a route it is a little more demanding than say 'Carnac or bust' as it takes you through the quiet moorland above Callac. Less developed and less touristy than the South coast the beaches go out miles when the tide is out. It's also a very flexible route with alternatives as to where to stop depending on your schedule. The pencil sketch below is for the 'full version', however it's easy to miss out the Priziac stop in order to go direct to Carhaix on the first day and so pick up a spare day at the coast.
As always if you have time you can do Day 1 on the Saturday.
Day 1 - 32 kms.
A really lovely ride to the village of Priziac where you camp right next to the lake. There you can sit at the bar and watch the sun go down over the water...
Day 2 - 39 kms.
Another beautiful ride on tiny roads - passing through several villages before entering the large (by Breton standards!) town of Carhaix where the campsite is set down by the river and has the best showers on the planet...
Day 3 - 59 kms.
The longest day and with a few hills to begin with - the payback is the very easy final 10 kms as you sweep down to the coast at the little town of Plestin Les Greves. The Campsite is tucked away up on the cliffs and is wonderful by the beach at Locquirec.
Day 4
A day to explore the coast. The beautiful port of Morlaix is within easy reach to the west and Lannion to the west. Or just be lazy...
Day 5 - 45 kms kms.
Away from the coast and a climb - back into the unspoilt countryside of this part of France. The route is fairly hilly but that's why it's shorter. After passing the gut busting lunchtime stop at Loguivy Plougras you wobble into the little town of Callac and another lakeside campsite.
Day 6 - 39 kms - normally Friday.
More meanderings in country lanes to get back to base and short enough to do this in a morning if you want to come back on the Saturday and pick up another day at the coast.
