Description
Day 1: Riohacha – Wind Farm – Pilón de Azúcar – Cabo de la Vela – Ojo de Agua – 25 km
You will leave Riohacha at 5:00 am in an air-conditioned vehicle to Cabo de la Vela. You will pass 4 Vías and the Wayúu indigenous capital Uribia where you will have breakfast. Then you continue this journey on the parallel road to the railroad tracks until you arrive at the wind farm. There, the bicycle tour begins. You will bike 17 km to Pilón de Azúcar.
At the Pilón de Azúcar you can hike to the top of the hill from where you can observe the beautiful landscape of the desert and the Caribbean Sea. You will also see the wind farm and Puerto Bolivar. You can take a dip in the sea and at noon you will start the 4 km tour to the eco touristic lodge in Cabo de la Vela for lunch.
At 3:00 pm you will continue on a 4 km bike ride to the beach Ojo de Agua, where you can take a dip in the sea. Then you will climb up the hill to the Lighthouse to watch the sunset. You will return to the lodge for dinner and to sleep in a cabin with beds.
Day 2: Cabo de la Vela – Cabo Playa – Desert of Ahuyama and Carrizal – Manaure – 70 km
At 6:00 am you will begin the 70 km bicycle tour from Cabo de la Vela to Manaure. The first stop will be after 8 km at Cabo Playa at 7:00 am for breakfast. The tour continues at 8:00 am, 62 km through the desert of Ahuyama, past the population of Carrizal, the Savannah of Manaure, along the coast until you reach Manaure. There will be several breaks for refreshments and hydration on the way. At 1:00 pm you will have lunch and can rest at the hotel. You can enjoy the beach in the afternoon. Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm at the lodge in Manaure. Afterwards you can rest in a cabin with beds.
Day 3: Manaure – Desert of Agustin – El Pájaro – Mayapo – Riohacha – 70 km
At 6:00 am you will begin the 70 km bicycle tour from Manaure to Riohacha. You will first pass through the area of marine salt exploitation and Mushichi, a natural reserve, where you can watch coastal birds such as pink flamingos, spoonbill, ibis, etc. There you will receive a refreshment.
This tour continues along the coast and through the desert of San Agustin until you arrive in El Pájaro, where you will have breakfast. You will continue past the natural gas pipeline and through the desert to reach the beach of Mayapo. There you will have lunch and can enjoy the beach. After lunch you will cycle through different indigenous communities in the coastal zone such as Popora, Punta la Vela and La Raya. You will be in Riohacha at 3:00 pm. There will be several breaks for refreshments and hydration on the way.
