Description
This superb 3 day combined cycle trail tour allows you to experience the variety of the Clutha and Roxburgh Trails and fully experience all this region and these trails have to offer.
Day 1: We collect you from your Queenstown accommodation along a scenic drive from Queenstown to Cromwell over the viewpoint of the Clyde Dam overlooking Clyde and all the way to Lawrence to start your cycling adventure at the far end of the Clutha Gold Trail. We ride this 3 day trip against the flow of the Clutha River, there are many reasons for this, when you ride the trail, you’ll soon see why! We provide a full picnic lunch and stay at great accommodation near the Roxburgh Dam. Their chef will cook you her amazing meal with mainly local produce.
Day 2: After breakfast, we ride the second day of the Clutha Gold Trail, stopping in Roxburgh for a look around and to try some of their cafes or to explore any of the many side walks into the surrounding countryside. Depending on the weather, we usually stop for our picnic lunch at Pinders Pond for a paddle or a swim. We return to our accommodation for another lovely evening meal and well earned rest.
Day 3: Our accommodation is at the bottom of the Roxburgh Dam. Your choice is simple, work off breakfast by cycling up to the top of the dam, or get a lift with the support vehicle. The Roxburgh Gorge Trail starts from the summit of the dam and is a great place for some group photos. The Gorge is stunning and a more challenging cycle than the first 2 days. There are some bigger hills to scale with some impressive switch-back bends and, to add even more adventure and variety, you travel the middle 10km of the gorge via an entertaining jet boat ride. We have a picnic lunch at Alexandra before you end the cycling with the Clyde River Trail, 13km of fast and flowing single track alongside the river, finishing in Clyde for a well earned drink. We aim to get you back to Queenstown by 5pm.
