Description
What goes better with beer and biking than amazing food. Escape this winter and enjoy the best Louisiana has to offer. On this adventure we will ride along the Great River Road, the Tammany Trace, rural roads through wildlife refuges and through the big easy of New Orleans. The ride is almost completely flat so this is a great trip for a first time bicycle touring adventure.
Day 1 - New Orleans
Our first night together will be spent exploring the Big Easy. We will take a short ride through town before sampling some great local beer and having a wonderful pre ride Cajun dinner.
Day 2 - New Orleans - Garyville ~ 45 miles
Our first days ride is along the levees that protect the the city. You will amble along the Great River Road. We will end our day exploring plantations as we enter Garyville. Tonight we will have another great Cajun meal.
Day 3 Garyville to Baton Rouge ~ 77 miles
Today's route will take us along Plantation Alley home to 30 antebellum mansions and many other historic properties overlooking the Mississippi. In Baton Rouge we will rest after our ride and enjoy beer from the local favorite Tin Roof Brewing.
Day 4 Baton Rouge to Abita Springs ~ 69 miles
Today is another longer ride with a wonderful reward. During the ride you will see Oak lined roads and beautiful rural Louisiana. At the end of the ride we will sample beers and take a tour at the Abita Brewery.
Day 5 Abita Springs to New Orleans ~ 69 miles
The last day of riding will lead you along the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain along the Tammany Trace. As you round the eastern edge of the lake you will ride through the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge before returning to the Big Easy from the east. Tonight we will have a celebration dinner and sample a few more of the breweries located in the Crescent City.
Day 6 New Orleans
Bid farewell after breakfast.
