Description
During this informative tour you'll get familiar with the eastern harbour area of Amsterdam and see how it has been transformed into one of the most modern parts of the city.
In the late seventies the eastern harbour, due to the construction of the central train station as well as the enlargement of freightships, lost it's functional purpose. During the eighties the remaining warehouses were given new functionality. The development of this area with some unique designs such as the Bimhuis, SBS buildings and several head offices of multinationals then came to be.
The Eastern Harbour Area, including the New Music building and the Passenger Terminal offers it's visitors a variety in succeeding architectural styles. The long stretched harbour-islands, constructed with the intention to enlarge available space for docking, have been turned into a unique space, setting a new standard for urban living and working near and next to the harbour.
