Description
Bicycle Beano cycling holidays are a fine blend of delicious vegetarian cuisine, friendly groups, and brilliant cycling on the idyllic country lanes of Wales, the Welsh Borders and the South and West of England.
Each year we run a handful of carefully-crafted holidays. We take over a country house or a residential centre, fillit with 20-30 guests, and organise scenic day rides with a variety of shortcuts and detours to suit a wide range of cycling abilities.
The north west corner of Wales is a dramatic mixture of Celtic culture and coastal spectacle, set against a backdrop of rugged mountain scenery.
Three rides explore the gently-undulating lanes of the Lleyn Peninsula, and are rarely more than a few miles from the sea. We cycle alongside the Menai Strait to the castellated town of Caernarfon, past the broad expanse of Dinas Dinlle beach, and to the ‘mediterranean’ seaside town of Criccieth.
Our other two rides dip into the western edge of the Snowdonia National Park, visiting Llanberis, Beddgelert and the panoramic drovers’ road to Prenteg.
We provide detailed route sheets and a morning route talk after breakfast, then it's up to you how far and fast you go. You can link up with other members of the group who ride at a similar pace, or take off on your own if you prefer. A selection of shortcuts and detours mean you can do as many or as few miles as you want, typically from 30 up to 70, and still meet everyone else at lunch and coffee stops.
We stay at the brilliant Trigonos Centre in the Nantlle Valley – the most fantastic setting imaginable. The views across Trigonos’ own lake to Mount Snowdon are unsurpassed. Eighteen acres of grounds include woodlands, meadows, a stream, and organic gardens (source of nearly all our vegetables for dinner), and the best view from a bike shed anywhere in Britain! The lake itself is popular for swimming.
There are comfortable single or twin bedrooms, either en-suite or with shared facilities (plus 1 double-bedded en-suite room).
On the optional cycle-free day you could visit the fantasy village of Portmeirion, where the cult TV series The Prisoner was filmed; go up Snowdon; cycle to a nearby beach; or laze by the clear waters of the lake.
