Description
The Gourmet & Grottes tour is our most recent addition to our lineup of tours based in one of the most beautiful regions of France.
Besides offering superb cycling, the tour offers two elements for which the region is most famous: food and caves!
Whenever you’re in this part of the world, good food and wine are always on the agenda, so we’ve carefully chosen hotels for you to stay in which offer excellent cuisine.
This particular tour starts in Cahors, on the main Paris – Toulouse rail line.
You’ll be met at your hotel for your “meet’n'greet”, supplied with excellent equipment and have any questions you may have answered.
- The following morning, having explored Cahors, a town famous for it's blood red wines, you set out along the Lot Valley. Your destination, the startling village of St Cirq La Popie, appearing to defy gravity as it hangs high above the river valley.
- You now have the opportunity to cycling along the Cele Valley. The ride takes you up the canyon-like valley. This is a valley without comparison, beautiful landscapes, picturesque villages and the world famous cave art found at Grotte du Pech Merle.
- Leaving the Lot and Cele Valleys behind you now cycle over the seemingly deserted Gramat Causse towards the spectacular village of Rocamadour.
- After a night in Rocamadour it's onwards to St Cere, where you will spend two nights. Within the locality you can visit the Gouffre de Padirac, Grottes de Presque and Chateau Castelnaud-Bretenoux amongst others. It all appears a dream.
- Following the river you cycle to the delightful village of Martel. Included on the route, passing through stunning countryside, are villages such as Carennac and Turenne.
- The last ride takes you from Martel to your finishing point in Gourdon. The fabulous Chateau Fenelon is a possible stop-off point, with the Grottes de Cougnac a final cave visit.
You won't want it to end.
The hotels have been chosen specifically to enhance this tour. Wonderful hosts, excellent accommodation and exceptional cuisine.
We specialize in this part of France, we know the area intimately. Our tours are more than just a bike ride, live the dream and experience France at it's very best.
