Do you want to get trained like a Pro Team rider under supervision of experienced coaches? Book the HC Bike Tours Gran Canaria training camp! In a course of two weeks we will be doing various exercises to help you improve your cycling technique, leg speed, power output, overall strength and endurance. Expect intense riding and climbs to prepare yourself for a new cycling season.

Why Gran Canaria? The biking itself is simply incredible. The roads are smooth and perfect, many options for routes, and a lot of climbing. The best place for hard-core cyclists for a winter training camp. It is no wonder that many Pro cyclists, including Pro Team Saxo bank, go there in the winter months for preparing oneself for the coming up season.
From our own experience we can assure you that this is one of the most beautiful Canary Islands with fantastic mountain views. It feels like summer as early as February! The high of the day is more than +20C (68F) with clear skies – no exceptions. Also, the ocean water is warm enough for an enjoyable swim, and the magnificent climate of the island provides a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and delicious seafood.

Moreover we will stay in 4-star Hotel Jardín Dorado in a luxury junior suites – bungalows. Every suite has a private garden that offers more comfort. The hotel has a perfect location in the golf course of Maspalomas, near the dunes of sand and close to restaurants and beaches. It offers outdoor swimming pool, it has a small gymnasium, a sauna and, in winter, a heated swimming pool with hydro massage that includes jets and whirl-bath. As well as massages can be reserved on request.

We recommend to book the full two weeks training camp: Feb 19 – Mar 05, 2017.
This two weeks continuing training camp is perfect if you are up to challenging season this year. The program is designed by our team – professional cycling coaches and ex-Pros and includes progress monitoring. We will also be changing the cycling routes on weekly basis.

You are welcome to join us for one week too. This training camp is planned on a week basis.

Camp itinerary

—Day 1—

Welcome to the sunny Gran Canaria

HC Bike Tours team together with the owner will personally pick you up at the Airport. After a short transfer to the hotel, we will help you settle in at the hotel and set up your bicycle. We will gladly share our knowledge with you and give you bike fitting consultations. After a lunch we will hold a short briefing, and then we will take off for the real training camp, kicking it off with an 80 km (50 miles) spin ride to get all the travel kinks out, which will be immediately followed by stretching and core strength session. The day ends with a shower, dinner and good rest.

—Day 2—

Double day team time trial + hilly ride

This day will be dedicated to training, nutritious meals and rest. The morning is spent warming up together with the group, doing a few special workouts and then doing 2x5km (3 miles) speed training in small groups to improve your speed and group training technique. The speed training will be followed by an easy ride back to the hotel for a short stretching session. After having lunch and short rest in the afternoon, we will head out for a hilly ride, totalling 60 km (37 miles). This particular route is especially beautiful, winding along the coast line along cliffs and wonderful sights. We end our day with another stretching session and with delicious dinner.

—Day 3—

A day to improve your strength and riding technique

Another day that is dedicated to improving your strength and climbing technique. We will do 3×4 km (2,5mi) climbs combined with special tasks that our team has prepared for you. After having lunch and some rest, we will have an easy 2 hour spin training.

Distance 50 miles / 80 km

—Day 4—

Endurance training – Pico de las Nieves 1949m

There are not enough words to describe this very beautiful and long day. You will accomplish a climb from the sea level up to the highest point of the island – Pico de las Nieves (elevation at 1949m). This is most certainly a Hors Categorie climb. We end the day with a well-deserved dinner, followed by great conversations.

—Day 5—

Who’s talking about resting?

Not in a HC Bike Tours training camp! Although we will be taking a long ride, we will be cruising the most of it. We will climb a mountain that is absolutely gorgeous. After that you will have the afternoon and the evening off to recover, explore the city, and make your own dinner plans.

—Day 6—

Hard core climbing!

A day dedicated to strength training. There will be a few intense and steep climbs putting your strength to test, but the scenery will make you lose yourself in its beauty.
This route is our personal favourite – brought to you in HC Bike Tours style. We end the day with a well-deserved dinner and time for resting.

—Day 7—

Final day of serious challenge and endurance training

Prepare yourself for a very long day that is going to be worth every minute of it. Expect a lot of climbing and challenges. Enjoy your last day of riding in Gran Canaria and let us provide you with all the support you might need. Let us share our experiences of the week!

—Day 8—

Was it too hard?

No. You will be coming back and asking for more riding and climbing. If you stay for 2-weeks, you will do another week of training camp following the same plan that you already did. We will make some changes in the routes and increase intensity. You will leave this training camp having improved your stamina, strength and technique considerably, and you will be prepared for greater challenges next time. Let HC Bike Tours take care of it! The training camp has been created based on HC Bike Tours coaches` and exPro riders’ experiences. Every day is carefully planned and thought through, every exercise has its meaning and purpose. The training program includes evening recovery rides. Each intense training session requires an appropriate rest. As you may know, progress only happens through proper process of recovery – that is why we have carefully put together a nutrition plan and dedicated time for some much needed relaxation by the pool or in the beach. The program also includes answering any questions you might have. Normally we all have group dinners in our staff recommended one of the best restaurants and when we have short discussions and briefing for the next day.
